HFC refrigerants are composed of hydrogen, fluorine and carbon atoms connected by single bonds between the atoms. HFO refrigerants are composed of hydrogen, fluorine and carbon atoms, but contain at least one double bond between the carbon atoms.
The first HFO, jointly being developed by DuPont and Honeywell, is HFO 1234yf. This is a low GWP (Global Warming Potential) replacement for R134a for potential use in mobile air conditioning (MAC) systems in the automotive sector.
These products are categorized to have zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential) and lower GWP than HFCs such as R134a. Therefore, these products offer a more environmentally friendly alternative than CFCs, HCFCs and HFCs.
This refrigerant is now available to purchase from Messer in Canada. If you have any questions, or would like to purchase R1234yf, please contact your Messer refrigerants team.
